Renting a 3/4 ton truck to move TT?

Question:

Anyone have an idea where I could rent a 3/4 ton truck to move a 7000 to 8000 pound travel trailer? So far I have not found any place that rents a truck that size. Rental agencies only rent 1/2 ton trucks. Hertz rents Ford Excursions, but they probably don't have brake controllers and I'm sure towing is a big no-no. I was thinking about renting one of the big 25 foot moving trucks from Penske, but I'm not sure they have the right hitch setup, and Penske probably doesn't want you to use it to haul a trailer except the ones they rent. The cost for the truck would be about $1200 and that seems awful expensive. I've checked into trailer moving services, but they all seem to operate out of Indiana or the deep south. I live in Minnesota and want to buy a used travel trailer in Maryland. I won't have a tow vehicle until next year. The type of trailer I want is pretty rare period and would have to be custom ordered if bought new. I found a used one for what I think is a good price and may not see another one for a long time. I will check what a new one costs before buying a used one in Maryland.

Answer:

_I used a 17' Ryder Truck to move a travel trailer from Illinois to Idaho a few years ago. It had a ball mounted on the bumper. I had no problems towing the trailer, but did have to temporarily install my brake controller in the Ryder for the trip. The Ryder had a governor that allowed only 65mph and only got about 7 or 8mpg.
_Have you considered trying to get a fellow rv'er to hook 'er up and deliver?
_willing to pickup and deliver the trailer for a reasonable fee. I have lived in parks in the past and there is always someone that wouldn't mind making a few bucks on the side. Depending on how many miles it is you might find someone who will do it quite reasonably, especially a retired person with time to spare.
_One possibility is to buy a truck, move the trailer, and sell the truck. On a single, long distance move this might be a cost-effective solution. Wheel and deal carefully and you might even make a profit.
_Just rent a u-Haul or Ryder(Ryder is much cheaper) truck to pull it.
_we pulled a 32 foot Terry Travel trailer a few years ago from Idaho to Seattle with a Ryder truck. We just asked the guy to rent us one that would pull it, and he did. Don't know the weight or anything, but we had no problems. And that signature line is pathetic.
_A Ryder moving truck, not a pickup truck. Ryder has 24 foot trucks that would do it.
