Bike weighing question
-is Bekins Moving and Storage helpfull
Question:
Would it be accurate to weigh a bike using a bathroom scale and weighing each wheel separately? I was getting bummed reading the dry weight on the new 900RR and R1 so I had to weigh my old 900RR to see how it stacked up.
Answer:
_You will not be able to get an accurate weight with a
bathroom scale. Look in your area for something like a
Bekins Moving and Storage place. they frequently have
"public scales" and you can weigh the bike with you on it,
then subtract out what your bathroom scale says you weigh.
_Which will do you no good at all *if* you can't get an accurate
weight with your bathroom scale!
My electronic bathroom scale is warranted accurate to + or -
1/2 pound from 10 to 300 pounds. I compared my own weight
on it and 5 other examples at the store when I bought it; all
read the same amount. I've weighed all of my bikes over
the past couple of years using scale, weighing first the front,
then the back, with a board under the off wheel to maintain
the same level (to prevent gas and oil from running away
from the wheel on the scale). I get wet readings that are within
+- 5 pounds of various magazine road test wet weight figures.
I'm pretty sure this method is fairly accurate.
