Case for SY-P4X400 DRAGON Lite-needing a new power supply
Question:
I recently bought a SY-P4X400 DRAGON Lite motherboard to go along with my 2.8GHz P4 CPU, and Radeon 9700 Pro video card. The motherboard should get here by the end of the week, so I'm researching what case to get before it gets here. I know that I need at least a nominal 300-350W power supply, but what else do I need to know about a case before buying it? I saw that the MB provides 6 USB ports, but it only says that 2 of them are in the rear, so do I need a case with 4 USB port holes in the front, or how does that work? Also, I just read on the SoyoUSA.com website that the board supports Win98SE, but I think I just have regular Windows 98. It never crossed my mind that this might be a problem. Is that going to be an issue?
Answer:
_Due to video card, I would suggest minimum 400w power supply.
NewEgg had some nice ChiefTek mini server cases in blue, silver, etc. w/450w
ps, front usb and firewire ports. Also has space for 5 fans. Was around
$70 + shipping
_On the 6 USB ports, like you already know it has 2 on the motherboard, but
as to the other four. There are two connectors on the motherboard, each one
controls two USB ports. So if you find a case with a pair of USB ports on
the front it will connect to one of the plugs on the motherboard. The new
Antec cases have these on the front as do many others. You can also buy a
rear adaptor with another pair of USB ports on it as well. As for the power
supply with your power hungry video card go with no less then 400 watts.
_As to your operating system, there may be a driver problem or even lack of
driver for some of the features on your motherboard which is most likely the
reason Soyo only supports Win98SE. It's time for the upgrade in your
operating system. Might as well go all the way and get yourself a copy of
XP, I haven't seen that old blue screen of death since making the switch
myself. But then if you need a copy of Win98SE I got a new one still in its
packaging to get rid of.
