long-distance moving company recommendations?
Question:
Are there any long-distance moving companies (either local or national) you would recommend to use for moving stuff from Evanston to Atlanta, GA or nationwide? Basically, the stuff will be books, clothing, kitchenware, no furniture. I have too much stuff to pack all into my car but not enough to rent a truck. Any additional advice regarding moving cross-country would be appreciated, too.
Answer:
I think www.upack.com offers a good alternative for college students. It is a part of ABF truck/trailer company. You basically put your stuff into the nose of those commercial trailers and secure it with a piece of wood board. The rest if the trailer will be used commercially. I am not sure about the security though. Check out the website and let's see what you think. Usually one looks for a moving company when they have large things like furniture and appliances to move. That doesn't seem to be the case for you. Assuming you don't have a storage unit or two full of stuff that needs to go along with your apartment things, you really ought to think about renting a truck and doing the move yourself. You'll save lots of money and be able to take the cats. If you have two vehicles, one can be towed behind the truck and the other driven by your partner. Otherwise, you are at the mercy of the moving company. You won't fill a moving van, so you stuff will likely be palletized and combined with other households.
