OT: Moving- what a pain!

Question:

I am moving into a new apartment...and incidentally I am still in a class where there is an exam every 2 weeks, AND at the height of my move will be starting a new full time job to boot. Eeek! So fashion related, I feel anything BUT fashionable right about now. I had no idea I could possibly have so much stuff crammed into my small apartment...but as I am gathering boxes and trying to pack, there seems to be no end to the packing! Box after box after box and still, not even close to being finished. Don't you just hate moving? And how on earth am I going to get all this stuffed moved-- I will have exactly one week to actually get the stuff out of this apartment and into the new one before I have to turn in my keys. I couldn't afford to double pay on rent any longer than that. To make it worse..THAT week is an exam week also, and it's also the second week of my full time job. Anyone have any tips on moving more efficiently?

Answer:

_your poor dear -- moving sucks. I've already decided that the next time we move, I'm going to hire big burly men to move my stuff, and I'll sit back and have a beer. I hate lugging boxes, and I'm always amazed by how much *crap* I own. Over the years I've streamlined things more and more -- someday I hope to be able to move with just a backpack. (kidding -- maybe *g*). The only suggestion I have for you at this stage of the game: Get friends to help. Coerce them, bribe them, blackmail them, whatever it takes. Feed them pizza and ice cream and beer. It will make moving immensely easier if you have a whole bunch of hands to help out. On our last move we only had one friend to help us out and it was complete hell.
_I can completely sympathize. The only advice I have for you is to get rid of the stuff you don't use now, or else it will sit in boxes until the next time you move... (assuming you procrastinate like me ;o) You'll make up for the extra time you put into sorting before you pack when you don't have to lug all of that stuff to your new place- plus unpacking will be really easy... I know that sounds like common sense, but when you get *really* sick of packing you may be tempted to just throw everything into boxes and be done with it. Look on the bright side- a new job *and* a new apartment sounds incredibly exciting.
_i am right there with you!!! we have to pack up and move by the end of summer...and i have accumulated way tooo much crap in the past 8 years that we have been in dallas....and not to think of moving and relocating the beauty cafe. that will be a chore in itself...anyone want to drive cross country with us? i called movers and they are bidding at between 4 to 5 thousand dollars to move us....but i won't have to lift a thing!!! having done a major move before...label label label.....organize your boxes by where they go, mark them...also if you feel real anal, mark down what is inside each box on a pad of paper that will stay with you at all times. give each box a number and a room assignment. for example, bathroom and box
1...you may have tons of boxes but if you need to find something you can find the box marked 1. on your pad right down the box number and what is inside the box. this will help you in case of emergency, like damn which box is my lipstick in?
