how to deal with packing audio snake for moving and storage
Question:
How does everyone pack their audio snake for moving and storage. I have a 24 channel..100'..24 channel splitter snake..hard wired. Should this go on a reel or is there a better method for storage?
Answer:
_NO .. a snake of that girth and weight may put a strain on the inside
layers of the reel and cause premature failure .. 5 bucks at a flea
market .. old foot locker should start you out with SOME kind of
strorage for that unit .. and to save the break out connectors & stage
box from getting dinged or messsed up, get a couple of draw string
canvas bags and bag the ends. (25 plus years experience here)
_A canvas "Laundry" type bag works for the J-box (Walmart) and Crown Royal
(Whisky) bags work great for your fan outs. (You know where to get these) And
there are obvious advantages to aquiring them. It's kind of a Win-Win
situation.
When they get worn, drink another bottle and repeat as neccesary.
_I got a plastic foot locker from K-Mart for $15 and I coil the snake in that.
The fan end has about 10 feet of length before I coiled the other 90' feet into
the box. When I get to the gig I put the box next to the console and run the
box out to the stage. That way whatever I don't need stays in the box and the
10' on the fan is long enough to hit the console. Markertek sells a bag to
cover the fan end for $14. It's part number PBG-1 and/or PBG-2.
