seeking for store-to-door moving and storage company.
Question:
store-to-door moving and storage companies offer a similar type of storage Have any of you had any experience with Public Storage? They offer a similar type of storage, and I'm planning on using them for my move from California to Boston. I'm also using their PowerLoad service, where their movers both load and unload the crate for you.
Answer:
_Do NOT, under any circumstances, use store-to-door moving and storage
company. They absolve themselves of all liability for damage -- and the
storage crates they use are:
not watertight
highly flammable
made of a splintery sort of wood that is harmful to
both you and your possessions.
Two bookcases of mine -- not flimsy, made of solid cherrywood -- were
thoroughly smashed in one of these crates by the store-to-door
movers, at a total cost to me of some $500. They informed me that they
are not liable, since the same driver did not unload the crates when they
arrived at their destination (to provide witness to his own incompetency,
presumably). Of course, it is impossible for the same driver to do two
halves of the same move, since this, too, is against store-to-door
policy. therefore, they are not, under any circumstances, responsible for
their mistakes.
Avoid them like the plague. I very much wish that I had.

BTW, look at the BBB's web site before you do business with any merchant.
Store To Door, for example, has an unsatisfactory rating for many of their
offices.
