Question: Moving to a New Xbox 360

Question:

My 10 month old 360 died with System Error E74. No Ring of Death. Just a single red segment. No free fix for this one. I tried the recommended fixes. No luck. Severe withdrawal pains. So I ordered a new one. Not an Elite, but newer than my old one. Has HDMI out. When I get it, can I simply move the hard drive from the old one to the new one? Will this move all my game data? Or, is everything lost?

Answer:

Call their customer service line, 1-800-4MYXBOX. I had to call them last week to ask to have my 360 repaired and my 360 is about 10 months old too. Mine didn't experience the 3 Red Lights of Death either. It started freezing soon after playing games and eventually, it'd just freeze during the splashscreen during the initial boot. They'll have you perform some stupid troubleshooting procedures, but in the end, it was determined that my 360 was as good as dead, even though it can power up. So, they're sending me a pre-paid shipping box for me to send my 360 in and I've been told by other 360 owners who has had to send theirs in for warranty repairs that it can take anywhere between 2 to 8 weeks to get a new one back. So, even if you ordered a new one, I'd call up the Xbox customer service line and get them to repair your old one for you under warranty. You'll most likely want to keep the new one since it has HDMI output. But you can still sell the old one. That's exactly what I plan to do when I get my 360 back. But I plan to wait a little while until the new 360s hit the store shelves with the new Falcon motherboard and the 65nm fab gpu.
