Columbus Ohio would be a great place

Question:

The city of Columbus is the biggest city in the state of Ohio. Ohio has *NO* NHL team. Here in Columbus everyone supports the teams. Ohio State football sells out every game.?

Answer:

OSU basketball used to sell out too, until they started losing. And even though OSU football is winning, when the weather turned cold people didn't show. What happened to the Glory? the Horizon? If you want to find dedicated fans, drive north on I-71 and stop at the lake. City council has talked about this for the last 15yrs. And we can all see what they've accomplished. Admittedly, there are actually some movers and shakers (with money) involved this time, but I'm not holding my breath. I wonder how the people here will adjust from $5 hockey tix to $50 hockey tix. That, on top of a tax needed to fund a new arena AND a new stadium for the above mentioned Crew. I don't really believe that this 'city' will go for both. And I think it would really suck if they screwed over the Crew. Let's not forget the Hockey History of Columbus - The Columbus OWLS of the IHL left because the fairgrounds treated them like crap - the building was a dump, and they sold it out from under them during the playoffs for a circus...... The Columbus Chill - the newspapers/TV Media treat them like the bastard stepchild - frequently no mention of scores (in the past, I've had to get the scores from the ECHL mailing list), no rink at the start of the season (Horse show) or during the playoffs (circus - sound familiar?) The Fairgrounds is better than in the days of the Owls, but it's still too small - The Chill sells out most games with only 6,000 seats. As for the price (I wish I could get hockey tix for $5 :) ) - they run about 14 with the ticket master fees - by the time I get 2 tickets, pay for parking, my son's food and my beer ;) at the game, I easily drop $50 for each game I go to (Don't let my wife see this or I'll be in the penalty box) - even at this we usually get to 1-2 games /month. If the NHL comes in, we'll only get to 1-2 games /year due to the increased cost (and I don't think Columbus can support both a NHL and ECHL team). I may have to settle for OSU Hockey - at lest with the success of the chill, OSU has finally started to see the
$$$$$$ and may try to have a hockey team (what they have had in the past could hardly be called hockey). I agree...Ohio is probably the biggest cold-weather state that doesn't have a team at the moment, and Columbus is the largest city in the US without a major-league sports team (well, excluding Major League Soccer which isn't there quite yet). The franchise could probably play in Cleveland and Cincinnati until a new arena becomes available. Or how about 100% Cincinnati, if the Bengals move to another city?
