Answer:
Back when I lived in Los Angeles, I used Schaefer, they did a nice job moving an extremely large and heavy console organ up a flight of stairs. Believe it or not, there is a "Piano & Organ Movers" section in the SBC Yellow Pages, so you may want to try those. But more importantly, could you PLEASE, PLEASE post your results. I've been looking to buy a used piano for the past six months, and I'd love to have hard info on movers. I used Benny's Piano Movers. Can't say I'd recommend them. Piano came with additional gouges on the lid. It was my first piano move and maybe its unrealistic to expect a perfect move w/ an item so big & heavy. It depends on where it's being moved from and what it's final destination is. If you are moving a piano from a ground floor location to another ground floor location, with normal sized doors at both, it's entirely reasonable to expect no damage. No, it isn't unrealistic to expect that the piano arrives without any damages. When I got my grand (5'10) moved two months ago, it arrived in the same condition it left the old appartement. The piano was completely wrapped in a plastic foil (with bubbles filled with air). The piano went down one staircase in the old building and came to the third floor here without any damage. There were some fingerprints on the lid, but nothing big and also easily removeable. This was not the cheapest moving company. The reason I took them was because the boss of that moving company came to my appartement prior to the move to inspect the staircase and the piano and also explained to me how they would pack it so it wouldn't get any damage. They not only said it, they did it. Whenever you move, ask how they will protect your piano. Pianos can be so expensive that it makes sense to take good care of them. A good condition of the surface is also a good argument in case the piano should ever get sold. Some people won't buy it with damages or will offer less money for it. We used Schaeffer before for a delivery from LA to Palm Desert. Schaeffer does alot of the piano moving at the Winter NAMM show in Anaheim. Service was fine, and it was to the retired VP of Allen Organ Co. so we didn't want any slip ups.
