Can anyone recommend a moving truck rental place in Manhattan?

Question:

Can anyone recommend a moving truck rental place in Manhattan?

Answer:

One fun place is the infamous A&L on 14th St. & 7th Ave. Their old beat-up meatwagons are pretty fun to scare other motorists with. They are pretty cheap but beware of them changing prices, giving you a different truck than you ordered, or tacking on insurance etc. that they didn't warn you about. If you are on your toes they are okay and they've got a lot of these suckers. Another much more pleasant place is Kokusai, they are located something like 30th St. & 1st ave. I have two scribble #'s in my book here--(212)
808-0810 & 685-8500. Their fleet is much better shape, but smaller so reserve far in advance. They have some really cheap special deals, but mostly for weekdays. I've also used Courier Car Rental. They are in NJ but they will either deliver the truck to you in Manhattan or leave it in a lot at 45th & 11th or so for you to pick up. Their # is (201) 882-2835, their trucks are clean and priced well. If you do go with A&L be sure to drive over to Brooklyn at the end of the day and play bumper cars with shopping carts in a supermarket parking lot!! I can offer one piece of advice: avoid Hittner
(on Lafayette St. near Astor Place) at all costs. I once rented a van from them that was so beat up that the back door flew open while I was driving over the Manhattan Bridge. (No cargo in the back, thank God.) I remember doing OK with Olin's Rent-a-Wreck in Brooklyn Heights...you might want to give them a call.
