Moving a pin -- what should I rent?

Question:

I'm going to be moving a FRONTIER cross-country soon, and am wondering what kind of vehicle I should rent to carry the thing in? Cargo van would be perfect, but I can't seem to find one for a 1-way rental -- would an SUV be too cramped? Mini-van(ugh)?

Answer:

One will fit fine in a SUV with the back seat down. Also that dreaded mini-van will take your machine and up to 4 people at the same time...
(from the owner of an Explorer and a Voyager!) Depends how far you're moving. If more than an hour (where/when you can't predict the weather then you need a covered vechicle (or one heck of a job wrapping/packaging the pin).
CHEAPEST
* Borrow someone's truck with a Topper on it (good for short distance moves)...price=Free.
* Assuming you're renting a moving van since you're going One-Way, put the pin in the moving van...price=Free.
* If you have a trailer hitch on your vehicle then get a small 5X8 Tow Trailer from U-Haul for $10 day (local rate, can't cost much more
1-way).
* Budget rents Ford Rangers for $25 day w/no milage expense (but I think its local)
EXPENSIVE
* Anything One-Way...you have to pay milage. That's why you should put it with your other valuables you're moving.
* Pack & Ship it to your new destination. Gets pricey because you got to find a way to take it & pick it up from the shipper (or pay more
$$$), crate it ($50 appx) and ship it ($150 appx). Heck for this price/hassle, you're better off renting a truck and paying the milage if its a regional move. MISC.
* Panel Trucks are expensive, but EZ to get pin in/out of.
* Covered Trailers are cheap and EZ to get pin in/out of, BUT you have to have a trailer hitch.
* Vans, with the seats removed, are pretty EZ to get the pins in/out of (see Panel Trucks above), however you could damage the interior.
* SUVs are hard to get pins in/out of...if its a newer SUV you can damage the interior if you're not careful/experienced.
* Pickup Truck are EZ to get pin in/out of BUT you're exposed to the elements. I have used all of the methods. For short excusions around town I use the Pickup Truck. Didn't enjoy the VAN or SUV trips I made...big hassel. I did the Panel Truck (work paid for the milage...don't ask) and it was nice, but if I had to pay for the milage it would have been expensive (drove 2 hours, 1 way). Used the Covered Trailer on several occasions and that's what I prefer when moving a pin outside of an hour from my house (because of the weather).
