Things are totally different Calgary then they are in Ottawa.

Question:

Anyone have recommendation for a cheap and good moving company in Calgary? So what is the name of your moving company? We will be moving soon, 6 mos.

Answer:

I have to speak on this one Eat Dirt.... I may be starting out here in Calgary...But I was doing this very same thing in Ottawa Ontario before I moved here just a little less then 1 year ago... Things are totally different here then they are in Ottawa..The price of vehicles, and supplies needed for the move cost alot more here in Calgary...((Which I only found out since I moved here))When I was in the moving industry in Ottawa, I didn't need to have my own truck as I rented saving the cost of overheads so I can make some money doing this job.... I was doing this for 3 years on my own and I have worked in this industry for 7 years prior.... After awhile, I did however buy my own 5 ton truck and a 14ft cube van... And I was doing great work....Had many recomendations and repeat customers...2 damages in 3 years is damn good if you ask me.... And I paid for every repair that was needed...(Full Cost) The reason why I didn't bring my trucks here to Calgary is because it would have cost me too much to bring them here.. The fuel costs last year just after sept.11th bull skyrocketed....So I sold everything and moved here... Why move here you ask? Cause there isn't that much compatition here in Calgary like there is in Ottawa. Plus the economy is booming here.. Everyone is moving here to Calgary.. There is like 10 pages of movers here in the yellowpages.. And in Ottawa, there are like
40-50 pages of movers... Too much compatition for my liking... As for the mistakes(spelling) in my previous ad in websites(Tax), whooops.... Obviously a mistake that others love to play on. (I never said I was perfect) My future plans here in Calgary is to have my business running with reliable professional experienced movers working for me.... I plan on hiring aprox..6 people for swampers and I will be hiring 2 drivers... I also plan on buying a few small 12-16ft.cube vans. Till I raise enough money to have this goal fulfilled, I will work for other moving companies here.(((One can never stop learning))) I've already worked for 3 other moving companies here that hire guys that don't seem to care about others belongings... That reflects on me..And when I complain about it, nothing is done about it.. So I go elsewhere to work for someone else... I'm working right now with a company that is pretty damn good. having great work values. They treat their customers with respect and their belongings as well. So I will stay where I am for now.. I also realized that most employees here that work for moving companies don't seem to care about peoples belongings.. Other peoples belongings should be treated as if it were their own stuff... If you cannot respect your own items then you shouldn't be in the moving industry at all...Unlike a few other moving companies I know about...I respect my property and other peoples property. At least I'm trying to do something with my life.. Unlike all these other people I've seen not wanting to work... They would much rather stay home and drink their life away and wait for the welfare cheque to come in. Yeah, a typical scary moving story. I was very fortunate with a company that advertised moving for
$37.00/hour. I took a chance and called them a couple of years back. They were set up out of Edmonton but had a shop here in town. For that price you got 2 movers and a cube van, large enough for a 2 bedroom apt. The two guys were young and strong, and willing to work hard (unlike older smokers who need a smoke break every 5 minutes). They were late coming in as their morning apt took longer than expected. But I guess that's not unusual. Yet they were keen to move me as soon as possible. The entire move only took 2.5 hours. These guys were terrific and the cost was less than I expected. I was so pleased that I gave them a case of beer and some gym equipment I didn't want anymore, as a way to show my appreciation for their hard work. A few months I tried to contact them again (on behalf of a friend) but I could not find them. I would be happy to refer them to you but they're no longer listed. I tried several other smaller outfits but had no luck finding one that seemed similar to this small firm from Edmonton. That's when I decided I was going to rent a cube van and do the moving myself with a couple of friends. These are cheap and you can save a pile of money not to mention not having to deal with losers (unless of course your friends are losers). This is the best way to ensure you won't have a similar experience as our friend Steve Mac here. That's my best advice not withstanding my previous advice about going with that Vince guy (which I would be wary of given he's just starting up). I wish you luck. And I mean it, as I know much too well the hassles of moving.
