Speaking of U-Haul Vehicles

Question:

You could do your own inspection to see if there are ant minor problems. All based on the TV program. If the gear shift is wanky and the steering leaves much to be desired and the brakes make fyunny noises, you'd find this out just driving onthe lot. Or better yet: "Why put your life in U-Haul's hands."

Answer:

Long and the short of it. All U-Hauls in Canada carry Arizona License plates and according to U-Haul come under state laws for roadworthiness and not Canadian laws. It does allow them to get around some Canadian laws. Ontario has them on the hit list and for a number of years has made them a priority for inspections and roadside checkstops. CTV rented 16 units in four different cities and had them tested and in each case they were not road worthy. Rusted frames, brakes brakes brakes, electrical, loose batteries, in one case reverse was drive and drive was reverse. It was gross. They interviewed the Canadian manager and he brought two PR people from the head office in Arizona. Pure crap came from his mouth.
-we rented a u-haul to come up here...no probs at all with a 24' truck hauling a car carrier behind it, 100 clicks an hour all the way...but i don't suppose that makes for a very good news story .
-Who else rents point-to-point across the country? When I was unhappy with the U-Haul quote in January, I tried to find another quote, and ended up shipping my car across the country by rail and getting a mover to carry my stuff. The mover beat the U-haul quote.
