Anyone get upgraded by U Haul to a bigger truck, or know anyone who has?

Question:

Has this happened to anyone or know anyone who has? Would you or they be willing to do a short interview?

Answer:

-W-5 just finished a U-Haul investigation that unearthed lots of crap that U-Haul currently runs on the road. This sounds like the final nail in the coffin.
-You're a bit late - either W5 or Fifth Estate has done an hour long programme. What's the matter with you journalism students ? Get out in the real world and stop putting any credence in anything anyone says on the internet !
-Certainly, no problem. Reader's Digest version follows; Small truck wasn't available as booked. They substituted a truck with a 26' body. That made the movement of the items being transported easier and the fuel and mileage charges weren't a concern. The truck did not break down and gave reasonable fuel economy considering the weight transported.
-Considering the horror stories I've heard of people not being able to get ANY truck from U-haul when they reserved, or mechanical breakdowns, I think you're doing pretty good even if you're stuck with a bigger truck (U-Haul safety concerns aside). Look at car rental companies. You can book a sub-compact and be "upgraded" to a minivan for no charge, and you still have to pay for extra gas.
-it happened to me a year ago. Told me at the last minute that the smaller truck didn't come in and they had to give the larger one... at no extra cost (except the gas, that is). Just the other day, someone told me they had reserved a truck from Uhaul, and when the time came to pick it up... there was no truck available at all. There's my interview... got nothing else to add other than that!
-I have 2 experiences with UHaul:
- rented a trailer for a move, requested and agreed that it would ready at 8 am Sat. Noone showed up until after 9, many customers waiting, and as you can imagine, unhappy. No apology or anything. Finally got on the road at 10.
- reserved a truck from their dealer in Wolfville. Picked it up, did the move and returned it. When I got the bill, it was for about 40% more km than the move actually was, and they charged me $30+ for gas, in spite of my having gassed up at the Irving only 3 km away! I know the km exactly, because I drove it with my car to verify. Customer Service after the fact was terrible: they as much as called me a liar, and I had to threaten them with small claims court to get satisfaction. They are a sloppy bunch, it would appear, at least from my experiences.
